For a government-arranged PCS vehicle shipment, inspect your privately owned vehicle at the vehicle processing center before leaving, compare its condition with the shipping inspection record and report visible damage immediately through the pickup process. Military OneSource identifies a separate claim route for vehicle damage, including a 10-business-day filing window for damage discovered after pickup. Do not substitute household-goods claim deadlines for this vehicle process. Military OneSource, U.S. Department of Defense: Understanding Military Moving Claims
Confirm which shipment and claim process applies
This guidance concerns a privately owned vehicle, or POV, shipped through the government vehicle-shipping program. It does not establish coverage for a car you drove to Oklahoma, damage from an unrelated accident or a privately purchased transport service. Keep the shipment identifier, pickup appointment information and the provider’s current instructions together.
Our Tinker PCS vehicle-shipping authorization guide covers the earlier question of whether a Tinker-bound PCS includes authorized vehicle shipment. Authorization and damage recovery are separate decisions. Military OneSource links to PCSmyPOV for the program’s vehicle-shipping information. Use the official shipment channel and the instructions for your move rather than an advertisement or an unrelated moving company’s claims form. Compare the car with the condition record
Allow time at pickup to inspect the vehicle and compare it with the pre-shipment inspection documentation. Photograph the condition, including the overall vehicle and a close view of each concern. Ask the processing-center representative how to record a disagreement before signing or departing. Keep copies of the documents you receive.
If the vehicle appears unsafe to operate, ask about a safe next step and qualified evaluation instead of driving it to meet a housing appointment. Do not repair a suspected shipment-related condition before asking what inspection, authorization or evidence the claims process requires. An urgent safety decision and a reimbursement decision may need separate handling.

Ask about the two vehicle settlement routes
Military OneSource describes an on-site settlement option for claims of $1,500 or less at the vehicle processing center. It also describes filing a claim with International Auto Logistics, with an estimate from a repair facility. Ask which option is available for the specific damage and obtain the proposed settlement terms before deciding. The threshold is not a guaranteed payment. Military OneSource, U.S. Department of Defense: Understanding Military Moving Claims
Compare the written offer with the condition being resolved. If there may be additional damage, ask how accepting a settlement affects the claim and what documentation is needed. Keep estimates and claim correspondence in the same file. Do not assume a verbal discussion at the counter means a complete claim has been submitted.
Act promptly on damage discovered later
Military OneSource states that a claim for damage discovered after pickup must be filed within 10 business days. Follow the current shipment instructions and contact the provider promptly when you discover a problem. Record when you discovered it, how the vehicle has been used since pickup and the evidence supporting a connection to the shipment. Military OneSource, U.S. Department of Defense: Understanding Military Moving Claims
That later-discovery window should not be used as a reason to leave visible damage unreported at pickup. Likewise, the household-goods rules for damaged furniture are not the vehicle deadline. If a deadline or claim status is uncertain, contact the program immediately and retain the response rather than trying to resolve the question through a general online forum.

Plan for transportation during the Tinker transition
A delayed or damaged car can affect travel between temporary lodging, the duty location, inspections and a new home. Build a short transportation contingency plan using actual options and prices. Do not assume that a rental, taxi or repair expense will automatically be reimbursed under the vehicle claim; ask the responsible program before relying on that money.
For example, a hypothetical household may need to attend a final walk-through while its shipped car is being evaluated. Separate the property appointment from the claim: arrange a workable ride, communicate with the real-estate team and preserve the repair documents. Making that logistical adjustment does not decide fault or the amount of compensation.
Keep the unresolved claim with the right office
Military OneSource directs service members who cannot settle with International Auto Logistics to their service branch’s military claims office. Keep the claim number, inspection records, photographs, repair estimate, proposed settlement and correspondence ready for that discussion. Record the next response date and any additional materials requested. Military OneSource, U.S. Department of Defense: Understanding Military Moving Claims
Use our military and PCS housing guide to organize the home-search and move-in side of a Tinker-area PCS. Doug and Ronnie with OKC Metro Group can help coordinate property deadlines around confirmed transportation plans. The shipping provider and responsible military claims office determine the vehicle claim; a real-estate appointment or closing does not change that process.
