Do not assume PCS orders to Tinker automatically pay to ship your car. For a CONUS-to-CONUS move, privately owned vehicle transportation is generally the member’s responsibility, with exceptions requiring review. Overseas moves can have different shipment or storage authorizations. Confirm your exact orders with the transportation office before booking a carrier, and plan how the household will travel between lodging, the new home and duty requirements while the vehicle is unavailable.
Separate the car from household goods
A privately owned vehicle, or POV, has a shipment process separate from the household-goods inventory. A personally procured move estimate or a household-goods weight allowance does not, by itself, establish that your car shipment will be reimbursed. Ask the counselor to identify the authority for each separate service you are considering.
Military OneSource describes different arrangements for CONUS and overseas moves and directs members to the transportation office for exceptions and restrictions. Military OneSource guidance Civilian employees should use their servicing civilian personnel process; do not apply a service-member example to every person moving for work at Tinker. Keep the orders and any amendments available so the office can review the actual circumstances.

Get the authorization question answered first
For a move between locations in the contiguous United States, Military OneSource says the expense of shipping a POV is largely the member’s responsibility. It also identifies exceptions and directs members who cannot drive or whose travel time conflicts with the report date to seek transportation-office assistance. Military OneSource guidance
Ask a specific question: 'Under these orders, is this vehicle shipment authorized, who arranges it, and what documentation must I have before spending money?' Save the response and request clarification if it only discusses mileage or household goods. Do not treat a private carrier’s promise of reimbursement as a military authorization. Avoid committing nonrefundable funds while a requested exception remains undecided.
For an authorized shipment, follow the vehicle process
Military OneSource directs customers using the government POV shipping or storage system to PCSmyPOV for appointments, processing-center locations and documentation requirements. Country restrictions can also affect whether a vehicle may be shipped. Military OneSource guidance Military OneSource guidance Review the current instructions for the actual route and vehicle rather than using an old checklist from another duty station.
Create a vehicle file containing the appointment confirmation, the documents the processing center requests, the vehicle identification and the shipping contact. Ask about any lender or lessor permission that may be needed, preparation requirements, authorized pickup arrangements and how changes will be communicated. This is a list of questions to verify, not a claim that every route requires the same documents or preparation.

Build a temporary transportation plan near Tinker
Put the vehicle turn-in and expected availability beside the report date, temporary lodging reservation, house-hunting appointments and possession date. A house closing and a vehicle delivery are separate schedules. Ask the processing center how to track availability and what happens if the schedule changes. Do not book other commitments around an unconfirmed arrival estimate.
For a household choosing between a home near the installation and one farther across the metro, consider the practical period when only one car or no car may be available. Price any privately paid rental or other transportation separately and ask the appropriate office whether any cost is authorized. This guide does not promise reimbursement for a rental, storage extension, rideshare trip or missed appointment.
Keep costs and confirmations in separate columns
A useful planning sheet has four columns: proposed service, written authorization, expected out-of-pocket amount and follow-up contact. Put a private auto-shipping quote in the out-of-pocket column unless the proper office confirms otherwise. Keep household-goods reimbursement, travel allowances and vehicle shipping distinct so the home-purchase cash cushion is not overstated.
For illustration, a family moving to Tinker from another CONUS installation may prefer to fly and ship its car. Convenience alone should not be entered as proof of a shipping entitlement. The family can ask about its actual authorization, compare self-funded alternatives, and schedule housing appointments around the transportation plan it can support.
Before booking, settle the authorization and processing-center questions with the transportation office. Then share only the housing-relevant dates with OKC Metro Group so the home search and possession plan can fit the move. Keep orders and personal identifiers out of public listing or marketing communications. This is planning guidance, not an individual military entitlement determination.
