An Oklahoma tenant moving into a purchased home should coordinate rental showings under the existing lease and Oklahoma’s access rules until possession is properly surrendered. Section 128 generally calls for at least one day’s notice and entry at reasonable times, with emergency and impracticability exceptions. Tenants must not unreasonably withhold lawful access, and landlords must not use access to harass.
The practical task is to make showing arrangements clear while packing, inspections and a purchase closing are underway. This is general legal education, not advice about a particular dispute. Use an Oklahoma attorney for a contested entry or an unclear lease provision, and keep the housing timeline in your OKC relocation plan.
Read the access rule separately from the move-out rule
Oklahoma Title 41, section 128 addresses access for purposes including inspection, necessary or agreed work and showing the dwelling to prospective buyers or tenants. It permits emergency entry without tenant consent and limits other access during an ongoing tenancy as stated in the law.
That is a different question from when the tenancy ends. Our guide to rental termination notice before a home purchase covers the separate notice and timing issue. Giving notice that you intend to leave should not be treated as a blank statement that anyone can enter whenever they wish.
Collect the lease, amendments, notices and any written showing arrangement. If the landlord’s request seems inconsistent with those documents or the statute, obtain advice about the actual facts. Avoid relying on a rule quoted from another state or an assumption that an online “24-hour rule” captures every Oklahoma exception.
Turn the request into a clear schedule
When a showing is proposed, ask for the intended date, time range, purpose and contact person. Respond through the agreed communication channel and keep the exchange. A specific response is easier to work with than a message saying that the entire week is inconvenient.
If the proposed time conflicts with packing or another essential appointment, suggest a workable alternative and explain the practical conflict. That is an organizational step, not a claim that every proposed alternative must be accepted. The applicable legal standard and the circumstances still matter.
For an illustrative tenant moving from an Oklahoma City rental to a home in Moore, the moving crew may be booked for the same afternoon as a requested showing. A written discussion of timing, walkways and who will be present can help everyone avoid confusion without treating the scheduled move as permission to refuse all access.

Prepare the occupied home without surrendering it early
Before an agreed showing, secure financial papers, identification, medications and portable valuables. Keep essential closing documents with you instead of in an open box. Arrange pets and household members in a way that fits the confirmed access plan and avoids blocked exits or crowded work areas.
Discuss how the property will be locked afterward and whom to contact if the plan changes. These are practical arrangements to request and document; they do not rewrite the lease or create a new legal access rule. Keep private details out of an unnecessary group text.
If you have moved some belongings but still retain possession, make the status clear in your communications. A partly empty room can create misunderstandings. Coordinate the actual key return and surrender process separately rather than leaving the parties to infer it from the presence of boxes.
Keep a factual record if access becomes a problem
The Oklahoma Bar Association’s residential landlord guidance is a useful starting point for the rights and obligations involved. For a dispute, bring counsel the lease and a dated record of what occurred. Identify the request, notice, response, actual entry and any supporting messages without embellishment.
If there is an immediate threat to safety, seek appropriate emergency assistance. For a non-emergency legal disagreement, get advice before taking actions such as changing locks or withholding rent. An entry complaint and the tenant’s other obligations may raise different issues.

Finish with an explicit possession handover
As the purchase approaches closing, confirm the rental’s final access, key return and possession arrangements. Preserve the agreed record and keep it distinct from a security-deposit request. A successful home purchase does not automatically close every remaining rental task.
