Before a PCS to or from Tinker, request a readable copy of your child's school records to carry with you and contact the receiving school's enrollment staff and school liaison. For eligible military students, the Interstate Compact supports initial placement using unofficial records while official records follow. Ask the receiving school how it will apply the compact to the child's grade, courses and circumstances.
This is a placement-and-records task that can begin while you organize the housing move. It does not guarantee a particular campus, program seat or final course schedule, and it does not replace the district's process for verifying the home address.
Build a small, usable school packet
Military OneSource's Changing Schools guide recommends carrying unofficial records to support placement before the official paperwork arrives. Ask the departing school for the current grade report, course schedule, transcript when applicable and records explaining current program placement.
Add the school office's contact details and instructions for requesting official records. Ask whether any work, grades or credits are still pending. Label a progress report as a progress report rather than presenting it as a final transcript.
Keep these records in your personal travel file, accessible during temporary lodging. Do not put the only copy on the moving truck. Use the school's secure submission method for student information and avoid sending medical or education records through a general home-search email chain.
Confirm compact eligibility and the specific question
The Interstate Compact explanation addresses enrollment, placement and graduation challenges. Ask the liaison which protections apply to your family's service status and move. The compact's scope is not identical to every service available to military-connected families.
Make the question concrete: the child was in a particular grade or course, the official transcript is in transit, and the new school needs to decide an initial placement. Provide the record that shows the prior placement. If the receiving school lacks an equivalent program, ask what options and review process are available rather than expecting a program to be created.
For a student near graduation, identify remaining credits and required assessments early. A housing search can absorb attention while an academic deadline passes. Have the school staff explain the requirements that affect this individual student.

Use Tinker’s school liaison before a problem grows
The official Tinker education resource identifies the installation's School Liaison as a contact for school matters. The Tinker School Liaison page describes help with inbound and outbound transfers, graduation, boundaries and compact questions.
Share the move date, child's grade and the exact unresolved issue. Ask which district office should receive the documents and who can help if the record is not accepted. Preserve the response, including whether it is general guidance or an actual school decision.
The liaison can help navigate the process; the family still needs a current district answer for the proposed residence. Do not choose an OKC metro home on the assumption that a nearby campus or a listing's school name is guaranteed.
Keep enrollment timing separate from the purchase closing
Tell the school whether you are awaiting orders, traveling, in temporary lodging or moving into a purchased or leased home. Ask about advance enrollment and the residency documentation required for your situation. Use the current process rather than a deadline remembered from a previous PCS.
Military OneSource's Oklahoma policy page describes advance-enrollment enhancements effective in 2026. Ask the district how it implements those rules, which records it needs now and what must follow after arrival. Do not treat early enrollment as an unconditional promise of a specific classroom placement.
If the house closing slips, update the school contact promptly. A temporary address and a later permanent address may require separate documentation. Keep the school plan current while the real-estate team resolves the purchase timeline.

Close the loop when official records arrive
Ask whether the official transcript was received and whether the initial placement needs review. Save the final schedule, credit determination and any remaining follow-up. An unofficial packet is useful precisely because it bridges a gap; it should not become the only record the school ever receives.
Handle disability services, immunization requirements and custody documents through their appropriate school processes. Those issues can travel with the same student without being interchangeable with ordinary course placement.
OKC Metro Group can help coordinate housing dates and address questions. Bring academic placement and compact questions to the school and liaison early, so the child's first week does not depend on finding a document in an unopened moving box.
